A “multi-pronged approach” may help ease the parking shortage in Zhengzhou’s residential communities, with the construction of multi‑storey parking garages set to become the main battleground.
In Zhengzhou’s Greentown communities, as living standards continue to rise, the number of motor vehicles has increased significantly. Whether in older residential areas or newly built neighborhoods, most face the same challenge: a shortage of parking spaces and difficulty finding parking. So how can this persistent parking dilemma be resolved? Expanding parking capacity is an effective way to alleviate the problem. According to the “Technical Regulations for Urban–Rural Planning Management of Zhengzhou (Trial)” issued and implemented by the Zhengzhou Municipal Bureau of Urban and Rural Planning in August 2013, residential buildings must provide at least one parking space per household. For apartment units with a floor area of 130 square meters or more, the standard requires at least two parking spaces per household.

2019 China (Chongqing) Smart Parking and Multi‑Storey Car Park Exhibition: Focusing on Chongqing’s Efforts to Advance Urban Intelligent Development
At present, vigorously developing smart parking has become the central focus for major cities across the country in addressing the challenge of parking shortages. Leveraging its unique technological advantages—namely, “Internet Plus Artificial Intelligence”—as well as cost‑effective benefits such as reduced management and equipment expenses, smart parking has effectively enhanced urban static traffic efficiency and improved the utilization rate of parking resources, emerging as a key trend in the future of the parking industry. To tackle the issue of parking scarcity and align with the intelligent transformation of the transportation sector, the Chongqing Municipal Government has also proactively introduced relevant implementation plans, including the construction of new multi‑storey parking garages and the intelligent upgrading of existing parking spaces. Chongqing’s smart parking initiative has been underway since 2016.

Come to Tongzhou and see what the “parking garage of the future” looks like?
Located at the confluence of five rivers in Beijing’s urban sub-center, the Canal Business District harbors an “invisible” multi‑level parking facility—the parking lot of the Canal Business District Municipal Comprehensive Supporting Service Center. On the afternoon of June 25, the “Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei Coordinated Development On‑site Visit Group” visited the center and marveled at the impressive smart, multi‑storey parking system. According to officials, the facility employs a cutting‑edge planar‑moving mechanical parking structure and a fully automated parking management system. Drivers simply drive their vehicles forward into the designated bay and can then leave; the system automatically parks the car in an optimal spot. Staff members…

Multi‑storey Parking | Construction of Multi‑Storey Car Parks at Hospitals Expected to Accelerate
At present, major hospitals in Dongguan generally face severe parking shortages, necessitating an increase in parking spaces. In recent years, this issue has continued to worsen. Currently, the Wanjiang Campus of Dongguan People’s Hospital sees an average daily traffic volume of 13,000 vehicles, with nearly 10 cars vying for a single parking spot; the Puji Campus handles over 3,000 vehicles per day, with 19 cars competing for one space; and the Dongguan Maternal and Child Health Hospital records close to 5,000 vehicles daily, with only one parking space available for every seven cars. To address these parking challenges, relevant authorities in Dongguan have explored numerous solutions, adopting a multi‑pronged approach. The latest bold measure is to support hospitals in constructing multi‑storey parking garages. According to reports, recently…

Inventory | Subsidy Policies for Multi‑Storey Parking Construction Across China (Part 1)
Shenzhen: Streamlined Procedures, Subsidies, and Incentives to Mobilize Social Investment for Parking Facility Development As one of the first batch of pilot and demonstration cities nationwide in advancing urban parking infrastructure, Shenzhen has consistently been at the forefront of encouraging parking‑lot construction. In October 2017, seven municipal departments—the Development and Reform Commission, the Finance Bureau, the Planning and Land Resources Commission, the Market Supervision Administration, the Transportation Commission, the Housing and Construction Bureau, and the Public Security Traffic Police—jointly issued the “Implementation Opinions on Strengthening Parking Facility Construction in Shenzhen.” These opinions established a clear mechanism for admitting private capital, stipulating that public parking projects and mechanical parking facilities supporting public transportation, when planned at the city level, should prioritize the PPP model and be publicly promoted to attract investment. At the district level…
