The imbalance between parking supply and demand in Nanchang City is becoming increasingly pronounced; six public parking lot investment and construction projects in Zhuzhou City have been filed.

Nanchang City currently has 1.3 million registered motor vehicles, and the imbalance between parking supply and demand is becoming increasingly pronounced. Since the city launched the “Three-Year Plan for Public Parking Lot Construction” in 2016, 313 public parking lots have been built across urban areas, adding a total of approximately 275,000 parking spaces—120,000 allocated to residential developments, 80,000 to public buildings, and over 70,000 as public parking spaces. At present, with the vehicle stock standing at 1.3 million and growing at a rate of roughly 300 new vehicles per day, the gap between parking supply and demand continues to widen. In response, the city has integrated parking‑lot development into its people‑benefiting initiatives, positioning it as a key component of urban renewal and infrastructure improvement.

Beijing: Draft Regulations on Property Management Seek Public Input; Parking Spaces May Not Be Sold Without Being Rented Out

Parking spaces may not be sold exclusively without being rented; property service fees shall be adjusted dynamically; and owners are required to sort and dispose of domestic waste… According to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban–Rural Development, the “Beijing Municipal Property Management Regulations (Draft)” has been open to public consultation since October 22. With regard to the use of parking spaces, the draft regulation stipulates that parking spaces and garages planned within a property management area for vehicle parking must first meet the needs of the owners. Any spaces designated for sale may not be sold to persons outside the property management area. As for those that have not yet been sold or leased, they must be given priority to tenants who are residents of the same property management area, and may not be made available on a “only” basis…

Zhoushan’s Putuo District plans to build a smart parking system.

Zhoushan’s Putuo District plans to build a smart parking system.

With the rapid development of urban economies, both vehicle ownership and parking demand have been steadily increasing, leading to severe issues such as “difficulty finding parking” and “illegal parking,” which significantly undermine residents’ travel experience and the overall urban traffic environment. According to data provided by Zhoushan traffic police, urban management authorities, and other relevant departments, the current vehicle population in Putuo District stands at approximately 53,000, while the number of public parking spaces is around 7,400, resulting in a ratio of roughly 7.2 vehicles per public parking space. Of these, about 5,500 spaces are located along roadways or within residential complexes, and approximately 1,900 on‑street parking spaces have been designated by urban management (excluding commercial‑center parking, which totals roughly 4,200 spaces). The utilization efficiency of on‑street parking spaces remains low…

Nanchang expands urban parking capacity by building both aboveground and underground facilities.

Urban parking is a hot topic in today’s society, and for many car owners, the biggest headache is finding a place to park. In Nanchang, authorities have adopted a multi‑pronged approach—planning, upgrading existing facilities, and adding new parking spaces—to tap into untapped potential by building public parking lots both above and below ground. The city aims to add no fewer than 120,000 parking spaces each year, thereby effectively easing the urban “parking shortage.” Expanding Capacity: Adding 120,000 Parking Spaces Annually Parking has long been a challenging, high‑profile, and deeply felt issue in urban management. On the one hand, vehicle numbers are growing rapidly: Nanchang currently has about 1.3 million registered motor vehicles, with an average daily increase of 300 cars and roughly 100,000 new vehicles added each year.
