Recently, the Xinchong Parking Lot, located on Xinchong South Road near Fumin Street and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, is set to be converted into a three‑story automated multi‑level parking facility, which will help alleviate the parking shortage to some extent.
The parking lot originally covered approximately 2,200 square meters and could accommodate 79 vehicles before the renovation. Following the upgrade, its capacity will double to 163 spaces. The new parking garage will maintain the same pricing structure, with rates remaining at RMB 5 per hour.
The new parking garage is being constructed by Shanghai Dasheng Enterprise Management Co., Ltd., a local company based in Chongming. Construction began on August 27 this year and is expected to be completed by September 28, with the facility slated to open officially during the National Day holiday.
The new parking garage features unmanned toll collection, with drivers able to pay via Alipay or WeChat Pay. “We are currently in discussions with the transportation card management company; in the future, ETC devices may also be accepted for payment, allowing drivers to simply pass through the entrance and exit at a reduced speed to complete payment, further streamlining the process,” said Zhang Liu-hua, head of Zhansheng Company.
“Mechanical automated parking garages occupy a small footprint, offering an effective solution to the challenge of limited parking,” said Zhang Liu-hua. “This is a public‑benefit project; we hope that by repurposing the new parking facility to restore public space, it will help revitalize commercial activity in the old city district.”
It is reported that the new parking garage is also equipped with a parking guidance display system, which shows real-time information on the number of available spaces. Drivers can use this information to park more conveniently and avoid unnecessary detours.
