On September 25, Beijing Daxing International Airport (hereinafter referred to as “Daxing Airport”) officially commenced operations. This aviation hub, hailed by the media as the top of the “New Seven Wonders of the World,” covers an area of 1.4 million square meters. According to reports, Daxing Airport is the largest newly built airport in the world in terms of construction scale, with a projected long-term annual passenger throughput exceeding 100 million passengers.
Passengers at airports often encounter various inconveniences, but as reported by a Nanfang Daily journalist, at Beijing Daxing International Airport, travelers will enjoy a completely new experience when parking and locating their vehicles, as well as when shopping and dining.

No more circling around at the airport to park or find your car.
Driving to the airport, only to spend time circling the parking garage in search of a spot, then circling again upon departure to retrieve your car—and afterward waiting in line to pay—can be a common headache for many travelers. At what is now the world’s largest airport by construction scale, how can passengers sidestep these hassles?
Nanfang Daily reporters learned that the newly installed smart parking system at Daxing Airport’s parking garage collects real-time information on available parking spaces and displays dynamic guidance on the garage’s digital signage, enabling drivers to clearly see current availability and choose the nearest spot. Meanwhile, when retrieving their vehicles, drivers can use self-service kiosks to pinpoint the exact location of their car.
Moreover, in the future, paying for parking at Daxing Airport will no longer require long queues. According to reports, this smart parking system offers seamless payment and electronic invoicing by developing a dedicated app or integrating with the airport’s official app, while supporting multiple payment channels such as WeChat Pay, UnionPay, and ETC. Drivers can also use the smart parking app to enjoy features like parking reservations, shared‑space booking, and online processing of long‑term rental procedures.
A tangible, hands-on new “online shopping” experience
Airports are typically located some distance from city centers. Because of procedures like collecting boarding passes, checking in luggage, and waiting in security lines, airlines usually advise passengers to arrive at the airport 1.5 to 2 hours before departure to complete all necessary formalities. Once these steps are finished, there’s often still plenty of time before boarding—so what should you do?
Nanfang Daily reporters learned that Beijing Daxing International Airport boasts 52,000 square meters of commercial space, with a retail footprint comparable to Beijing’s China World Trade Center. Here, travelers can dine, shop, and relax, while also enjoying cutting-edge “black-tech” stores to pass the time.
At JD.com’s Airport Store No. 1, located in the central core area on the second floor of Beijing Daxing International Airport’s terminal, travelers can experience cutting-edge retail technology. The store showcases the latest models of computers, audio systems, headphones, drones, cameras, and smart robots. When a customer picks up an item, the store’s interactive shelves automatically display detailed product information and customer reviews, presenting multi-dimensional data that includes video demonstrations, text-and-image descriptions, and user feedback.
In addition to “electronic shelf labels,” passengers can browse products on cloud‑based shelves within the store and make purchases with a single tap. By bringing online shopping experiences into the physical airport environment, travelers can see and touch the items they’re buying, while the electronic shelf labels ensure that prices remain consistent across both online and offline channels.
Passengers shopping at Daxing Airport can also enjoy a variety of integrated online‑offline services, including “order online, pick up in store,” “order in store, delivered from the warehouse,” and “assist‑with‑ordering on behalf of customers.”
After making purchases, travelers can opt for JD Logistics’ delivery service. According to company staff, to ensure smooth operations across all logistics processes at Daxing Airport, employees have undergone specialized training and multiple rehearsals. “Each employee walks 10,000 to 20,000 steps daily, thoroughly familiarizing themselves with store routes and workflow procedures.”
According to reports, following the opening of Daxing Airport, passengers will be able to enjoy cutting-edge transportation, shopping, and dining experiences provided by JD Group at the airport.
