Parking Update | The lifting of car purchase restrictions in Beijing and Shanghai is not looking promising: traffic congestion and steep parking fees are deterring consumers.

On September 12, the Guiyang Municipal Government announced the cancellation of its vehicle‑purchase lottery policy, making Guiyang the first city among the nine provinces and municipalities nationwide that have implemented car‑purchase restrictions to fully lift those measures. Guiyang Fully Lifts Auto Purchase Restrictions According to an announcement on the official website of the Guiyang Municipal Government on September 12, the Guiyang Municipal People’s Government issued a decision on September 10, 2019, to revoke the “Provisional Regulations on the Management of Small Passenger Vehicle License Plates in Guiyang,” effective from the date of publication. Just two days earlier, on September 10, the Guizhou Provincial Development and Reform Commission and eight other departments jointly issued the “Notice on Several Policy Measures to Promote the Sustainable and Healthy Development of the Automotive Consumption Market,” which proposed…

“Parking difficulties” are a thing of the past—see how new technologies are solving the airport parking conundrum.

Airports around the world are striving to provide travelers with faster, more convenient journeys. Yet parking difficulties often deter passengers from driving to the airport or leave them dreading the time and expense of finding a spot—especially when boarding time is tight—adding an unwelcome blemish to what should be a pleasant trip. As air travel continues to grow in popularity, the number of available parking spaces keeps shrinking. How to make the most efficient use of limited space has become an urgent challenge for airport management. To deliver a seamless journey—from doorstep to destination—airport operators must take decisive steps to ensure…

Lack of detailed policies, insufficient scale, and low returns—could this be why shared parking is struggling to take off?

Lack of detailed policies, insufficient scale, and low returns—could this be why shared parking is struggling to take off?

Renting out private parking spaces can turn a profit with minimal effort, while opening up corporate and hotel parking lots can offer greater convenience to residents. Over the past period, many localities across the country have been actively exploring practical and innovative approaches to shared parking, signaling a fresh wave of “Internet Plus” initiatives taking root in the parking sector. However, our reporting reveals that as the shared‑parking market expands, deeper underlying issues are beginning to surface: incentive policies in some areas have yet to be fully implemented; both property owners and management companies remain deeply concerned about safety; and the lack of scale has even led to a contraction in the shared‑parking market in certain regions. As a result, many people are still hesitant to get involved, reluctant to take the plunge. Behind the persistent parking shortage lie hundreds of millions…

Parking Plan | Taiyuan City Unveils a New Strategy to Alleviate the “Parking Shortage” Problem

To advance comprehensive governance of civilized traffic, alleviate the imbalance between parking supply and demand, improve the living environment, and actively strive to become a national model city for civility, Taiyuan City recently formulated and issued a work plan to further strengthen the planning, construction, and management of parking facilities. The plan calls for establishing an open and efficient parking supply system that prioritizes on‑site parking, supplements it with public parking, and incorporates on‑street parking as a necessary complement, thereby fostering a well‑structured framework characterized by sound urban parking‑facility planning, standardized construction, and effective management. In recent years, Taiyuan City has implemented a range of measures to steadily expand its parking infrastructure. At present, the six central districts have approximately 1.264 million registered motor vehicles, with about 840,000 on‑site parking spaces approved through regulatory processes.

Six-story multi-level parking garage, facial recognition to detect illegal taxis

After a year-long, 30‑item comprehensive improvement program, a visit to Beijing South Railway Station today reveals significant progress: the region has rolled out “facial recognition” technology across the entire area, leaving unlicensed taxis with nowhere to pick up passengers; streamlined traffic flows for metered taxis and tour buses have made on‑site traffic much smoother; 346 signage panels have been revamped, eliminating the maze‑like layout inside the station; and 62 shops have been relocated, freeing up more space for travelers. On September 5, the Beijing South Railway Station Area Management Committee also announced several positive developments: construction has begun on an elevated parking garage outside the station, an accessible direct elevator is being added to the North Plaza, and additional public restrooms are being built on the South Plaza.
