Urban Parking
On April 8, construction began on Xingyang City’s first underground, multi‑level smart parking demonstration project, which will make efficient use of underground space and seamlessly integrate parking spaces with the existing street‑side parkland.
The project is located within a street-side parkland at the northwest corner of the intersection of Suohe Road and Gongye Road in Xingyang City. It employs stack‑type underground intelligent parking equipment, with each stack‑type parking unit occupying only the footprint of a single vehicle space. The underground facility covers 314 square meters and can accommodate 120 parking spaces. This pilot project will construct three stack‑type underground garages, providing a total of 360 parking spaces, and is scheduled for completion by the end of this year.
In recent years, driven by rapid economic growth and rising living standards, the number of vehicles in Xingyang’s urban area has increased sharply. However, due to inadequate parking infrastructure, parking spaces are severely scarce, particularly in the old城区. The illegal occupation of sidewalks and bike lanes by motor vehicles persists despite repeated prohibitions, disrupting urban traffic flow and tarnishing the city’s image.
Underground automated multi‑level parking garages enable intensive, space‑efficient land use and increase the supply of parking spaces, effectively addressing the challenge of finding parking. At the same time, these facilities offer user‑friendly operation and advanced automation: drivers do not need to descend underground; they simply park their vehicles in designated spots and complete the process with a card swipe or a mobile‑phone QR code scan, allowing fully automated handling. The entire vehicle storage and retrieval process takes less than one minute, saving time and effort while providing convenience and speed. Moreover, storing vehicles underground better safeguards their security.

Under the overall plan, Xingyang City intends to invest 198 million yuan to develop nine underground, multi‑level, smart parking facilities, with a total of 2,160 parking spaces. Upon completion, these facilities will enable more vehicles to be parked in garages and stored underground, achieving separation of pedestrians and vehicles as well as of motorized and non‑motorized traffic. This will comprehensively address urban parking challenges, support Xingyang’s integration into Zhengzhou’s development as a national central city, and help build a “West‑Beautiful” urban district.
