Parking difficulties at the South Station are expected to ease.
On October 15, a reporter learned from Beijing Static Traffic Co., Ltd. that a new multi‑storey parking garage will be built near the north plaza of Beijing South Railway Station, offering more than 400 parking spaces. The facility is currently under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

It will address the most pressing issues in parking conflicts.
The multi‑level parking facility at Beijing South Railway Station is located adjacent to the north plaza of the station. With four floors and a planned capacity of 400 parking spaces, it was invested in and constructed by Beijing Static Traffic Fengtai Investment & Operation Co., Ltd. under the commission of the Beijing South Railway Station Management Committee. Covering a total floor area of 11,750 square meters, the facility will help alleviate the parking shortage in the vicinity of Beijing South Railway Station.
The site for the parking garage was formerly the South Station’s parking lot, which could accommodate 139 vehicles. However, due to the station’s massive passenger traffic, parking spaces are severely inadequate, with a shortfall of over 400 spaces at peak times. This shortage has led to frequent congestion in the surrounding parking areas and on local roads, a problem that becomes especially acute during the spring and summer travel seasons.
The parking shortage is not confined to Beijing South Railway Station. During its preliminary surveys, Beijing Static Traffic Fengtai Company found that the Kaiyangli residential community near the station, built in 2004, houses more than 7,800 households, yet it has a very limited number of designated parking spaces. As a result, the imbalance between parking supply and demand is particularly acute, with vehicles often occupying fire lanes and sidewalks, posing significant safety risks.
The parking garage under construction is conveniently located between the North Plaza of Beijing South Railway Station and the Kaiyangli residential community. After the parking lot was converted into a multi‑storey parking structure, the number of parking spaces increased from 139 to 400. This expansion of 261 additional spaces not only alleviates the shortage of vehicle‑handling capacity at the station but also provides greater convenience for residents of the community.
Supports multiple online payment methods.
Once the parking garage at Beijing South Railway Station is put into operation, it will feature self-service payment terminals, mobile app and ETC electronic payment options, as well as remote customer service capabilities. By shifting from manned toll booths to self-service payment and offering flexible, diverse payment methods, the system will save drivers time while accelerating vehicle turnover and maximizing parking space utilization.
In addition, when parking‑lot users encounter issues such as parking, payment, or emergency gate‑opening, remote customer service can engage in video‑enabled two-way communication to assist them, thereby achieving “unmanned operation with human support.”
The parking garage will be completed by the end of the year.
At present, the South Railway Station parking garage has entered the construction phase and is expected to be completed by year’s end. In addition to building the parking structure, Beijing Static Traffic Fengtai Co., Ltd. is also installing and marking parking spaces at locations such as the South Station North Plaza and Nan Zhan Road, while upgrading parking‑lot service‑guidance facilities. These measures will significantly improve parking management in the South Station area.
