Urban Parking
In Furong District, which is home to bustling commercial areas and established residential neighborhoods, parking has long been a pressing issue. According to our reporter, the multi‑storey parking garage on Zhanche North Road has now entered the commissioning phase. Once completed and put into service by the end of this month, it will add 180 parking spaces, helping to alleviate the chronic parking shortage in the surrounding area.

According to reports, the Xiangze Nanhu Building’s smart parking garage is located at the intersection of Zhanche North Road and Tongfeng Street. The surrounding area is home to numerous older residential neighborhoods and a construction materials market. To make the most efficient use of urban space, the facility employs an intelligent vertical‑lift parking system, occupying 370 square meters while providing 180 parking spaces—meaning one car can be parked for every 2 square meters. The garage spans 15 levels and is divided into six vertical‑lift modules; retrieving a vehicle from the top level takes less than a minute, and it also features an automated U‑turn function.

Zheng Yingpeng, the project’s chief engineer, told reporters that, with the streamlining of approval procedures, construction has accelerated significantly. Since officially breaking ground on March 1 this year, the project has now entered its final stages; following equipment commissioning, interior finishing, and fire‑safety inspection, it is expected to be fully completed and ready for operation by the end of August.

According to reports, Furong District is enhancing its core commercial districts, renovating aging residential communities, and upgrading amenities in newly built neighborhoods. By making full use of both above- and below-ground spaces and consolidating scattered vacant lots within communities, the district is advancing shared parking initiatives. This year, it plans to build 14 parking facilities, adding 5,566 new parking spaces. To date, four projects have been completed, while the remaining ones are all under construction.
